Helping Hand Opportunities
ANEW: BUILDING BEYOND VIOLENCE AND ABUSE DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE ANY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
Anew depends on volunteers to help in our mission to see a world free from DV.
Whether you have a few minutes, a few days or a few weeks, you can make a real difference.
There are many opportunities to volunteer for Anew: Building Beyond Violence and Abuse. Whether you help with office tasks, hang posters in the community or host your own event/fundraiser, we need you!
Please note that due to the confidentiality and safety of our clients that are victims/survivors of domestic violence, there are no direct service opportunities.
Please email Events and Volunteer Manager, Brittany Williams, at email@example.com, if you have any questions or for more information on how you can help.
HOST A FUNDRAISER
Gather your friends, family members or coworkers and host a fundraiser to benefit Anew. Some ideas include hosting a walk/run, movie night, dinner party or bake sale. You could also ask your employer if they would sponsor a “dress down day” which would allow staff to make a donation in order to participate.
Do you have an other idea and need some assistance talking it through? Reach out to the development department, they will be happy to help you brainstorm.
ORGANIZE A COLLECTION DRIVE OF OUR MOST NEEDED ITEMS
Contact our Administrative Assistant, Rachel Forsyth, at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out what our current most needed items are.
We work as an agency to help meet the basic needs of our clients by stocking a pantry at each of our confidential locations in order for the victims/survivors to be able to focus on a sustainably safe future. Staple items that we are always in need of are non-perishable food items and snacks, full sized/unopened personal care items, cleaning and laundry supplies, and diapers. Additionally, gift cards are a big help for the clients. Most in demand gift cards are for gas stations, grocery stores, and multi-purpose stores such as Walmart/Target.

DISTRIBUTE OUR OUTREACH POSTERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Help us reach people impacted by intimate partner violence in as many communities as possible. We have created purple posters in which ideally would like hung in the bathrooms of every establishment.
The posters purpose is to give patrons and community members information about our services and empower them to know that they are not alone. The posters include tear off tabs which list our 24 hour English/Spanish hotline number and website. Individuals might not always take the number for themselves but for someone they may know who has been impacted by domestic violence.
ORGANIZE A USED CELL PHONE DRIVE
This is an ongoing fundraising project, in which individuals, clubs, organizations, faith communities and other special interest groups can participate. Cell phones that are less than 5 years old are most desirable.
ORGANIZE AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING
Get a group together and invite an Anew representative to talk about the dynamics of domestic violence and the services we provide. This can be a special interest club, organization, faith based group, etc.
Do you work in a school or know a teacher that would be interested in having one of the Anew Community Educators come and give an age appropriate presentation to the students? Click here for more information about what is offered at each age level.
ASSIST AT OUR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE
Use your helping hands to donate your time and skills. We have a variety of on going clerical task that we could use assistance with including helping with mailings, stamping/labeling brochures, and other assorted office tasks. Occasionally we also need help with sorting donations that are received.
PARTICIPATE IN OUR ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM
Annually we look for individuals, families and businesses who are interested in participating in our Adopt-A-Family (AAF) program. AAF is designed to help victims/survivors of domestic violence and their children during the holiday season. The families that participate are experiencing financial hardship as a result of their family circumstances. They would likely have nothing for the holidays without the help of generous donors. Donors purchase and wrap gifts for their adopted family.
List are adopted out at the end of October with the wrapped presents being dropped off at the administrative office by the beginning of December.
PARTICIPATE IN OUR BACK TO SCHOOL ANGEL PROGRAM
While many parent anxiously await the end of summer, signaling the time for back to school shopping. For some parents however, while focusing on surviving their domestic violence situation, this can be an added stressors when they see the long list of school supplies causing it to sink in that they can’t come close to affording all of their children school supplies.
Annually in the beginning of July, Anew ‘adopts’ out the back to school list of our children clients to local “angels” willing to buy those needed items. You can adopt a child’s list yourself, with a group or organization, or even with your own children since this is something they can relate to and understand.
Get involved in our fundraisers
Participate in or volunteer for our established annual Keeping Dreams Alive Gala!
You can also host a fundraiser yourself! We’d love to help you brainstorm ideas and send you our agency materials to help promote your event.
